Is your business a little bit stuck? Do you have a huge list of things you think you should do, but you’re not sure if you’re focusing on the right things? One-to-one business coaching can help.
How does business coaching work?
Having a business coach is a bit like having a great personal trainer or a swimming coach. You gain from the many years of specialised training and experience the person has, which helps you to make better decisions for your business.
Business coaching helps you get from where you are now, to where you want to be. It helps you avoid the pitfalls and find the shortcuts. A great business coach will connect you with reliable resources, suppliers and tools to help save you time and make the journey much easier.

What can I expect from coaching?
A coach works side-by-side with you to reach the goals you set for yourself. If you want to make $10,000 in the next 12 months great, $100,000 perfect. You set the goals and the pace. Once we’re clear on what we’re going after, we map out a personalised strategy for you and your business.
Each person has different strengths and weaknesses – some are great at talking, others great at writing. Some love social media, others can’t stand it. The strategy will draw on your personal strengths and build from there. As with anything in life, there are many roads that lead to Rome and there are many ways to build a successful business. You don’t have to fit one mould or change yourself to be something different.
There is no point pushing against the grain of your personality. The better we can identify what you’re naturally great at, the clearer the path ahead becomes. The goal is to get you into your “zone”. The place where you feel confident and can take the actions you need to take, with the least amount of resistance.
Who is coaching for?
The style of business coaching available through The Joy Society suits early-stage entrepreneurs and those who are in the growth stage of business. So, if you’re a solo entrepreneur attempting to do everything yourself, or in a small team where time and money are limited, our coaching packages are likely to be ideal for you.
Coaching is designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your business, to identify what’s working and remove what isn’t. Together, we’ll identify the activities likely to deliver the greatest returns first, adding in additional goals once this foundation is in place.
During the coaching sessions, you’ll gain access to our resources, suppliers and toolkits to ensure you can produce great work to suit your budget and timeline. Importantly, you’ll receive support when you’re stuck and have someone to talk to who knows what you’re going through.
FEEDBACK FROM OTHERS
What experience do you have?
For the past 20 years, I’ve helped businesses tell their stories and improve their profitability through carefully planned marketing activities. My formal training is a Bachelor of Commerce, which included marketing, accounting, business design and economics.
I’m passionate about helping clients find smarter ways to grow their businesses, by connecting more effectively with potential customers and clients. My intention is to help as many people as I can, by sharing what I’ve learned. To help them avoid the pitfalls and understand the shortcuts.
What industries have you worked with?
During my career, including six years in a busy marketing agency, I’ve had the pleasure of working across a range of industries including health, finance, travel, property, not-for-profit and education. This gave me a great grounding across a range of products and services.
Since mentoring entrepreneurs, I’ve purposefully focused on those who help others in some way. In the past two years, I’ve worked with naturopaths, photographers, graphic designers, event coordinators, yoga teachers, personal trainers, wedding planners, recruitment agencies and interior designers. I love learning about new industries and I’m quick to pick up the nuances of each.
What size businesses do you usually work with?
Whilst I’ve worked with businesses of varying sizes during my career, including not-for-profits and large multi-nationals, I prefer helping emerging businesses with small teams. The challenge of achieving great results with limited resources is rewarding, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others who will directly benefit from it.
For the past two years, my focus has been on solo entrepreneurs and small teams, where the owner and one or two team members are responsible for planning the growth of the business.
What will I learn during our coaching sessions?
Your coaching sessions will be tailored to your own goals and skill set. Some people find they need more technical training, such as how to use Mailchimp, write a media release or edit photographs. Others find they need to understand something more deeply, like how the media industry works or what emotions are holding them back in business.
Depending on what you wish to learn, I’ll either deliver this to you through one-to-one sessions or by sharing useful resources we’ve developed at The Joy Society, such as blog articles, guidebooks and toolkits. We’ll make the most of our time together, so that you can move forward more quickly.
How much time and money is required?
Our introductory coaching package Brainstorm Breakthrough is perfect for those just starting out who want to refine their ideas and create a clear roadmap to move forward. The Step-by-Step Strategy is great for those who are already operating their businesses. Together we’ll review your current situation and map a growth strategy for your business.
The Strategy and Support coaching package allows for both one-to-one coaching sessions and some hands-on help, for example, copy editing, graphic design, email automation or image editing – whatever is most helpful for you.
All packages include skill development toolkits and online planning tools developed by The Joy Society. Sessions can be delivered face-to-face if you’re in Perth, Western Australia or via a free online tool called Zoom, which is similar to Skype. The sessions can be recorded if you wish, so that you can refer back to them.
