Each session is three hours from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. You start with the Skill Shop and then come to a Get It Done Session, whenever you can, to get feedback and extra support.

About the Mailchimp Skill Shop

It’s a three-hour in-person skill development session. You’ll learn both the tech and the creative sides of email for business, including how to grow your email list.

Most importantly, you’ll understand how to design good-looking and engaging email messages you’re excited to send, and your clients love to receive.

By the end of our time together, you’ll know what to write about, how to find and edit images, craft subject lines, set up advanced email forms on your website and, of course, how to write the actual email! That’s kinda essential, right?

We’ll also show you how to schedule automated email sequences, which save you time and energy in your business. When you embrace this feature, you’ll welcome people into your world, as soon as they sign up to your email list.

It’s a great way to strengthen your relationships, look after your community and increase your sales. This, in turn, helps you expand your reach and your impact.

Which email software?

We love, use and teach Mailchimp. It’s a clever email software tool, which is free for your first 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails per month, then a small fee per email.

Once you reach this level, you can set up a monthly subscription or use pay-as-you-go credits which offer flexibility if you’re just getting started.

Mailchimp is a world-leading software and is fantastic to use, once you know the ropes. There’s a little bit of a learning curve, however, it’s worth investing time to benefit from the power of it to grow your beautiful business.

It’s also the only widely-used email software, which includes the drip-feed automation feature for free for your first 2,000 people. Yay for free stuff!

We also love how Mailchimp is still privately owned by the same two guys who started it, even though it’s grown and grown. The customer service team is excellent and they truly care about your success.

Another fun reason we love the ethos of Mailchimp. They send out fun swag! If you reach out to customer support to ask a question and are nice about it, they often send out tee-shirts, beanies and socks #hottip. They’re our kind of humans.

What results can you expect?

By improving your approach to email, you’ll increase your connection with those on your email list. When you do this consistently, you’ll increase enquiries, referrals and revenue.

The effort you put into email is one of the most reliable ways to increase your sales. It does take time, and learning a few new skills, however, it’s worth it.

You’ll also save money in your business, as you won’t need to outsource this skill. If in the future you decide to outsource it, you’ll know the language to use and understand the capability of the technology.

How’s that for a smart long-term investment? Kinda like the shoes you know you’ll get at least 100 wears out of. Cost per wear is absolutely a thing!

Where are the sessions held?

We host the training sessions at our studio, The Joy Society in Inglewood, Perth (view map of location).

There’s plenty of free street parking just outside our studio, and the #950 bus runs between Perth CBD and Morley and will drop you at the corner of Beaufort Street and Tenth Ave, one minute from our studio. Easy!

What’s included in the Mailchimp Skill Shop?

The session is designed to help you move forward with more ease and less frustration. There are six steps, plus plenty of time for questions along the way.

You’ll also receive a digital guidebook to take home, which includes the step-by-step instructions of everything you’ll learn in the Skill Shop. It’s a great resource to refer back to.

You won’t need to worry about taking notes, forgetting a process, or missing any steps – you can just come along to listen, learn, and meet other like-minded business owners.

Step #1:

In these first few steps, we’ll teach you the “tech” side of Mailchimp. Step #1 starts with a walkthrough of how to create your Master Template, including:

  • How to create, save, and duplicate an email template.
  • How to add words and images (in the right way, to play nice with Mailchimp).
  • Useful email design features and tips.
  • Inserting your brand elements (logo, font and colours).
  • Inserting your social media links.
  • Inserting a video.
  • Designing a signature image in Canva.

Step #2

In this step, we’ll take you through the full tech setup of an automation. You’ll learn:

  • What email automation is, and how it can grow your business.
  • How to build and/or import an email list to suit segmentation.
  • Scheduling ‘triggers’ for your automation.
  • How to preview and test your emails.

Step #3

Next, we’ll show you how to access your reports and statistics for your automation, and teach you what to look for in each metric so that you can improve your email messages and get the best results. You’ll learn:

  • How to set up your industry statistics.
  • How to compare your click rate, open rate, bounce rate, and contact rating.
  • How to use your statistics to improve your email subject lines, content, and call-to-actions.
  • Ways that you can segment your audience to improve your click and open rates.

Step #4

In the last step, we’ll demo how to link your website up with your Mailchimp account, using form integrations and hidden fields. You’ll learn:

  • Our best form builder recommendations.
  • What an API key is and how to create one in Mailchimp.
  • How to create and design a form.
  • How to configure your Mailchimp feed.

This step will save you so much time trying to figure this out yourself. No more dated YouTube clips or trying to decipher plugin instructions. Let us share our experience with you.

Step #5

Once you’ve got a good understanding of the tech stuff, we move onto the content creation side of email. You’ll learn:

  • Our best tips and tricks we use to create email content, for ourselves and our clients.
  • How to write a great subject line.
  • How to improve your writing to connect with your audience.
  • How to structure your emails to make them easier to read.
  • Case study examples and their success stories.

Step #6

To finish, we’ll give you our list of useful resources and our fave online tools you can use to guide you and get quality feedback, for free!

Add a Get It Done Session

If you’d like some extra guidance to get everything humming along nicely inside of Mailchimp, come along to a Get It Done Session.

We host these once a month at The Joy Society studio, all are welcome!

It’s a three-hour in-person session, where you’ll bring your laptop and get stuff done side-by-side with other business owners.

It’s kinda like a co-working set up, as we mostly work silently side-by-side, however, we can jump into another room to speak to each other, and we encourage everyone to give feedback in the breaks.

You can also ask any questions you like, about email, social media, strategy, growing an ethical business, brands of tea we like, you name it, we’ll answer it.

It’s also lovely as you’ll meet other like-minded business owners and learn from their experiences as well.

To keep things on track, we use the Pomodoro Productivity Method, working in sprints of 25 minutes and then taking a break for five minutes. It helps you get lots done and keeps your mind fresh for three hours.

Other benefits of the Get It Done Sessions include:

  • Accountability: we’ll help you stick to your goals, and get some solid work done!
  • Tech support: to troubleshoot any tech questions you have.
  • Support: we’re here to offer a fresh set of eyes and encouragement to keep at it.

The sessions also include our handy Get-It-Done planning templates.

If you’re keen to get an email automation built, we recommend you bring along your raw notes and images. You should be able to get at least five emails done in the session.

We’ll explain how to prepare for your first Get It Done Session at the Skill Shop, so you can make the most of the time we have together.

Which sessions to attend?

Ideally, attend both sessions to gain the most benefit – if you can. That’s one Skill Shop and one Get It Done Session.

You can space them out, however, it’s great to take action whilst the knowledge is fresh in your mind, so plan to come to both sessions in the same month if you can.
